Summary Two Atari classics and one bland game represent.
The second volume of Atari Legends features three more legendary classics. These classics are Breakout, Missile Command and… Lunar Lander? I wasn’t aware that Lunar Lander was considered one of those Atari greats. Maybe I missed the press release about that. I wouldn’t call this a good game let alone a legend. What you do is try to land a ship on a rocky lunar surface while fighting the high gravitational pull and your own momentum. Lunar Lander is a brutal lesson in physics and it’s different than most games, but it’s so boring. I never liked Lunar Lander and I still don’t. The two other games, Breakout and Missile Command are the stars of this package, although they have a few issues. Breakout is just normal old Breakout. It’s not the better Super Breakout, or Nintendo’s awesome Arkanoid or Alleyway with tons of crazy power-ups and boards. It’s just a paddle, a ball, and a wall. You know, normal Breakout is really kind of boring.
As with the first volume of Legends, you can save at any time during the games. That is really the only saving grace of the package, though. There is also no multitude of options like the first volume. The translations of these three legends falls a bit short of legendary.
