Atari Legends Vol. 3

Summary

Two sequels and Pong populate volume three.

My Thoughts

It had to happen eventually, and I’m surprised that they waited until volume three, but Pong is now in an Atari Legends pack. Pong may be a legend, but it isn’t the greatest game, so Asteroids Deluxe and Super Breakout round out the package.

Asteroids Deluxe adds a backdrop and blue vector graphics to the game. The backdrop serves as little more than a distraction. I prefer the flat black background, but the blue vectors are a decent change of pace. The cool optional tweaks from the first Legend’s Asteroids are not present, however.

Super Breakout has a few gameplay options, though. You can play double, cavity, progressive and classic. Classic is just regular Breakout, which was already on Legends 2. In double you get two paddles and balls. Cavity has holes in the wall which hold extra balls and progressive forces the wall down as you hit the ball more. With the optional play modes Super Breakout is pretty fun.

Pong is the original legend. There really isn’t much too else say about it, except it would have been nice if some extra play modes were available for it. Of course, the awesome save anytime feature continues. While it doesn't have tons of options, Atari Legends Vol. 3 is a decent purchase for those nostalgic types.

Score: 6.0
