Microsoft Denies DoDonPachi and Ketsui X on XBLA
There is some disheartening news today, shooter fans. This was actually reported by XBLAH on the 27th and I'm surprised that none of the major media outlets picked up on it until today. From an interview in Famitsu, Masaki Sakari from 5pb, who has been busy getting the licenses for release on Xbox Live Arcade. The two Cave developed shooters DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label X and Ketsui X were destined for greatness on XBLA. Except now Microsoft has denied the two shooters admittance and pissed off a lot of fans. From the interview Sakari stated that Microsoft told him that they "...are going to cut down faithful arcade ports." What the hell is wrong with faithful arcade ports? So they'll just have poor arcade ports and cell phone ports then? I can understand them wanting more original content, but considering that many of these games have never been released over in the US, well that practically makes them brand new games for many people, including myself. I was grateful when Triggerheart Exelica was released on XBLA because I wouldn't have to pay a ton of money for an import disc. Sakari's reaction was this: "We felt so frustrated. We wanted to show them that their decision was wrong. So we switched our two most promising projects into retail." Those two projects of course being DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label X and Ketsui X. I sincerely hope this turns out for them. Personally, I would rather have the titles on disc anyway. If a publisher releases them on the same disc at a budget price and get them over in the US the shooter populace would be all smiles. Or maybe Sakari can get the disc region-free. There was an online petition sent to 5pb to get the games region free in case the titles do not get a North American release. He also stated in the interview the initial plan was to port lots of good arcade titles. They could be all shooters or not, but once he can get DoDonPachi and Ketsui X out at retail perhaps the other titles can get out. And just maybe whatever publisher that will be bringing over these two probably awesome games can help get Raiden Fighters Aces over here as well. I gots to get my shooters. - Shawn - 03/31/08 |
