Flying Hamster Goes from Shooter to Platformer RPG

Flying Hamster was a fun little side-scrolling shooter and developer Game Atelier has started making Part II. The sequel is not a shooter, though; it's a platforming RPG adventure. That's quite a genre jump. The first game had nice visuals and music, cool power-ups like beer and bees, and at times had a Parodius type of humor. It's really a great game. It's a little weird that the sequel would be a completely different type of game, but from the video and assets posted so far, it's looking good.

Flying Hamster II: Knight of the Golden Seed is based a lot on the classic Wonder Boy/Monster World games, and Game Atelier even says that's what they're going for. In part II, Newton the hamster is now wearing knight armor and can transform into other animals. Transforming into other animals give him new abilities to traverse castles and towns. From the video above it looks like Newton the Hamster can still still fly, but it might only be when he needs to, so he's still a flying hamster, sometimes. It seems like this adventure might be a lot easier for him if he still flew all the time

Wouldn't this battle be a lot easier if the flying hamster was flying?

Game Atelier is currently running Flying Hamster II on Kickstarter to fund the game. It looks like they have a lot of good going for it so far and they even have Castlevania music composer Michiru Yamane on board. I liked the first game a lot more than I originally thought I would, so a sequel would be an awesome thing, even with the genre switch. I would also love to see this make it on the PS4 and Xbox One.
