Kill Bill: Volume 1 -Miramax (2003)
Summary Uma on a rampage! My Thoughts Kill Bill: Volume 1 is the first installment in the short Kill Bill series, and if you didn't know that already you're living under a rock. This first part begins with the character of The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, beginning her tale of revenge. The Bride's quest starts off with a bang when she's nearly killed along with her entire wedding party by the titular character Bill. In this edition, she gets a little way down her list of people who need violent revenging on, but stops well short of killing Bill himself. Kill Bill is by far Tarinteno's most stylistically diverse film. From the use of multiple camera and cinimtagraphic techniques to the editing and pacing, this film is one big happy love package of technique and style. Kill Bill is mainly styled after classic kung fu films, but it borrows from many other styles as well, blending it all into one great mish mash of film glory. While watching Kill Bill its hard not to get excited about the next surprise around the corner. I'm not going to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't seen this film yet (I don't know why you haven't), but rest assured there's plenty of eye candy to fill two films. I can't recommend watching this any more than I already have. As far as the edition goes, I'm sorely disappointed. It's a practically bare bones release, but with a good picture and surround sound mixes. I was hoping for something more than what is presented here, but I'm sure a special edition will come out eventually now that both Volume 1 and 2 are out on DVD. Extras The motion menus are pretty cool, but the only thing in the way of extras is the documentary "The Making of Kill Bill" and a music video. The documentary is a pretty good watch and Uma Thurman does her best impression of a horribly evil Mummy. The 5,6,7,8s music video is okay, but this band really sucks. Score: Film: 9.0 Extras: 5.0 Edition: 6.0 -Paul
