Metal Gear Solid 4's New Beautiful Bosses

Crying Wolf is what happens when the Decepticon Ravage and an overly emotional model mate.

After a little snafu at Konami's Games Convention press conference yesterday, Hideo Kojima was able to show off the complete new trailer at his own press conference today. The trailer introduces the bosses of Metal Gear Solid 4.

The boss battles have always been the most memorable parts of the Metal Gear Solid games, because of their uniqueness of characters and the ways the battles play out. One of my personal favorites is the sniper battle in Metal Gear Solid 3. Just from their introduction alone it looks like the bosses of MGS4 will continue the tradition of super awesome boss encounters.

Each of the new bosses looks like a human inside of some kind of Metal Gear technology suit with animalistic characteristics. One of them is like a puppet master as it takes control of a soldier with puppet strings and even has two little puppet friends. The character immediately reminded me of Psycho Mantis from MGS1. My intuition was right, because I later read that the name of the character is Screaming Mantis. In fact, all the boss names are similar to the bosses in the first Metal Gear Solid. The boss with the robotic tentacles on her head is Laughing Octopus. The one with the missile-packed wings that screams "Rage!" is Raging Raven. Then there is the headless robo-wolf named Crying Wolf. When Wolf first came on the screen during the trailer I thought of Ravage and half-expected it to transform into a cassette.

What's more is that each of the four bosses is a woman. At his press conference Kojima said that each is based on a beauty from the real world. The four women have been transformed by battle and are a part of the Beauty and the Beast Unit. Each boss also did what their name implied. Crying Wolf boo-hooed like a little emo kid, Raging Raven's rage was rising, and Laughing Octopus laughed maniacally like a crazed female. However, Screaming Mantis didn't seem to do much screaming. Kojima also hinted that we may get to see the women without their battle armors. It's almost hard to believe that there would be a complete girl in the Wolf suit. If there is then she obviously likes being on all fours.

Kojima has always had some crazy, inventive, over-the-top, and unique bosses and I'm positive that the battles fought against them will rock our socks off. I can also see how someone may think they are a little silly, but they are infinitely better than MGS2's fat man on rollerblades.
