Summary
The Metal
Slug stutters along its
way to victory.
My
Thoughts
Metal
Slug returns to cell
phones, but it’s hardly a good thing. After the lackluster controls and
performance of the
first game I was weary that the sequel would have the same
problems. While some of the game is improved, the game suffers a similar fate.
Metal
Slug: Mobile Impact
is more of the same Metal Slug action. Unfortunately it’s more action
from the previous mobile game, not the excellent arcade and console versions.
The game features seven stages with much better graphics and more enemies, but
still suffers from many of the same problems that plagued the previous
installment.
While the
controls did feel a bit better and it does run a tad smoother than the first mobile game, it still needs a
little response work. I’m not sure if the phone was giving the game problems or
if it was the game itself, but the game would freeze every, and I mean every,
time my bullets hit an enemy soldier. Sometimes the game would be frozen for a
few seconds before things started moving again. I got in the habit of counting
the seconds before I could play some more, and my highest freeze count was a
full ten seconds. That was ten seconds of staring at the still image of an enemy
solider standing with a bullet directly in front of him, wondering what I’m
doing wasting all my time on this game. Mobile Impact has limited
continues to make you get good at the game, but the real challenge is long you
can tolerate playing it.
