A Trio NECA's SDCC 2009 Exclusives

NECA has announced a trio of videogame figure exclusives at this year's San Diego Comic-con (via Action-Figure). So far this year's glut of SDCC exclusives have been pretty low on the ol' nerd excitement meter for me, but these I can get at least a little interested in. The first exclusive is Guile as Charlie from Street Fighter IV. Why did NECA make Guile wearing Charlie's clothes and not Charlie himself? Well, Guile's alternate costume in SFIV is Charlie's outfit from the Street Fighter Alpha games, which is immensely horrifying on Guile's part. If your best friend died would you start wearing his clothes? Probably not. Other than reminding me that Guile is one very sad panda, this figure is a reminder that we'll most likely never get a SOTA/NECA-sized Charlie figure. NECA has a Street Fighter IV figure license which means they can only make SFIV characters. SOTA's Street Fighter license is all-encompassing except for SFIV, but I have a feeling that they won't be making any SF figures anymore. And unlike SOTA, NECA doesn't include alternate heads with their figures, so a switch-able Charlie head option is out. NECA needs to start including alternate heads with these figures, because alternate heads gives us more expressions in character faces and more options for fighting poseability. Regardless, I may have to pick this up just because it's the closest thing I'll get to a Charlie figure.

The next exclusive is a Gears of War 2 Locust Grenadier Lambent mutation. In Gear of War 2 there are Locust that have been mutated by the glowing yellow Lambent sauce inside the planet. The Lament Locust fight against the regular Locust for some reason; It's not explained. This figure is primed with the glow juice and has yellow lines on his body. In the game the Lambent explode when they are shot, but I'm pretty sure this one won't.

NECA's other game exclusive figure is Dead Space's Isaac in a Church of Unitology space suit. I have yet to play the game, but I know that the Church of Unitology is full of space-crazies. Isaac's all-black suit with alien markings is looks cool and has that extra Gothy flair. The figure also lights up, which makes it even more bad-ass and a possible purchase at the show. I would expect these to be $20 each, so save up your quarters, kids.

An angry, depressed military man wearing his dead friend's clothes, a blood-thirsty explody alien, and a Gothed-out space engineer; Nothing but good times at the NECA booth this year.
