The Monkey's News Box: 2/22/15

Games

  • The Predator and Colonel Dillon will both be in Mortal Kombat X as DLC in June. Carl Weathers even approved his likeness for the game. This is seriously awesome. The only thing that could be better is if they were able to get Arnold's Dutch into the game who could say, "I'm here! Kill me!" during a fight. That's not all, though, because Spawn might end up in Mortal Kombat X. Apparently he was originally considered to be a guest character in Injustice or Injustice 2, but there is only a limited amount of time he can be used so MKX seems likely.

  • NIS confirmed that Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls will be heading to the U.S. this Fall. This is a spin-off and is quite different than the normal games. This looks more like dark silliness than ultimate despair, but I'll definitely be playing it regardless.

  • A pre-release arcade video shows off Tekken 7's boss, Kazumi Mishima. The Mishima family matriarch turns into a flame-winged demon angel with a white tiger she can bring into the battle.

  • The gold Mario Amiibo will be a Wal-Mart exclusive. When, or if it's bundled with something is not known yet. Now where will that silver Mario end up?

  • Cave is releasing a new shooter called Mahouotome, but it's for mobile. I miss new console Cave shooters.

Movies

  • The international trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road is very similar to the first trailer, but there are a few brief new scenes snippets in there. This movie can't come out soon enough.

  • Zak Snyder showed off the first pic of Jason Momoa as Aquaman in Batman v Superman. I prefer Aquaman with a beard, so it's good to see him with it in the pic. The ink and armor pieces look fine, too.

The Monkey's News Box: 2/8/15

Games

  • The trailer for Persona 5 went live and is showing what looks like a different kind of Persona. Action and stealth elements, characters who might change into their Personas, and most importantly, a cat character. A cat! This is an exciting time for Persona fans.

  • Have a gander at some sweet Xenoblade Chronicles X concept art. Also, check out the presentation for the game showing the vast world, badass transforming mechs, and gameplay. I am loving what I see in this. Xenoblade Chronicles X is looking like a very good reason to own a Wii U.

  • There are two Mortal Kombat X Kollector's Editions. The wide release one has a stylized Scorpion statue made by Coarse and includes an in-game gold Scorpion skin inspired by the statue. The Amazon exclusive import Kollector's Edition has a different Scorpion statue, a Steelpack case (I'm guessing it's a Metalpak), a steel card, a comic, and the gold Scorpion skin. I digging the different look of the Coarse statue, but the other one looks cool, too.

  • The Super Mario Amiibo will receive two special versions: a gold Mario and a silver Mario. Nintendo hasn't revealed how or when these will become available. I like the silver Mario because it looks like Metal Mario, so it has some game tie-in value.

  • The retro style racing game Drift Stage will be heading to PlayStation 4 and Vita. Nice.

  • Lego Jurassic World is coming with four adventures based on each of the movies. Plus, you can play as dinosaurs, which is what everyone really wants.

  • Here's an interesting video on the History of LJN. I was familiar with their videogames, but didn't realize they had made so many toys, especially the dangerously realistic squirt guns.

Movies/TV

  • Netflix is developing a live-action Legend of Zelda series. They describe it as Game of Thrones for a family audience. No. That kind of description doesn't work and is essentially an oxymoron. It won't have the death, sex, nudity, and twisted relationships that make up Game of Thrones, so instead what it will be is a medieval story for a family audience. Zelda is going to be a completely different kind of show.

The live-action series better look as good as this. (See Fanime '13)

  • The third G.I. Joe movie might have the crimson twins Tomax and Xamot, which seems like a natural progressions for adding big characters that have yet to make the leap to live-action. However, the movie also might have Matt Trakker from M.A.S.K. While Matt Trakker got a G.I. Joe action figure in the 25th Anniversary line, it would be a little see weird to have him in the movie when there are still other G.I. Joe characters that haven't been in a movie yet. Although, this could lead to a stand-alone M.A.S.K. movie, which would be cool.
