The Monkey's News Box: 1/27/13

Destroyah evolves on its own.

  • Bluefin Tamashii Nations will be bringing the Asia web shop exclusive S.H. MonsterArts Destroyah Evolution set to the U.S. This amazing set contains Destroyah in its pre-Godzilla ass-kicking forms of crab thing, aggregate, and flying form. Destroyah itself (its final form) will be out in February/March with the Evolution set out sometime in June or July.

  • Mega Man's Bass and Treble are the next great S.H. Figurearts figures from Bandai. There's also a mean-looking Metal Garurumon from Digimon, as well as some Ultraman and Iron Man figures.

  • Revoltech is getting into vehicles with The Dark Knight's Tumbler. There is the black Batmobile version and a limited edition camo version.

  • The Capcom, Sega, and Bandai Namco crazy crossover game Project X Zone is actually coming out in North America. I may have to get a 3DS for this.

  • You can get N7 armor in Dead Space 3 just by having Mass Effect 3 on the same system. Cool. In other Dead Space 3 news that is not cool, there will be in-game micro transactions if you want to better weapons earlier. See, you would pay real money to buy supplies to make in-game weapons. You don't have to do it, but it's such an incredibly stupid and greedy mechanic.

  • In an attempt to outdo Call of Duty, the Splinter Cell: Blacklist Collector's Edition has an RC plane. The three channel plane is the mobile headquarters in the game. They say how big the plane actually is, but it better be a decent size for $170.

  • Japan is getting a sweet Treasure Box for Dynasty Warriors 8. This thing has a 3D crystal that lights up with LEDs and changes color. It's incredible. It also includes a soundtrack CD and art book.

  • The Last of Us is getting two special editions, the Survival Edition and the Post Pandemic Edition. Both include a Steelbook case, comic book, stickers, and DLC. The Survival has a full size art book, while the Post Pandemic has a statue of Joel and Elle. I prefer the art book, myself. Meanwhile, Europe has two special editions of their own, the Elle and Joel Editions. These include a canvas packaging, mini art book, mini comic, controller, poster, and DLC. The difference in Europe's editions is you can choose between Elle's face or Joel's face all over the stuff.

  • There's going to be a new Xeno game from Tetsuya Takahashi, the director of Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade, along with the character designer of Xenogears and Xenosaga.

  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers includes an arrange CD with the first print run of the game.

  • There's going to be a Tekken Card Tournament game that uses real cards. It's a free game that will use real cards from booster packs. This sounds like too much work to play Tekken.

  • Bungie visited a 5-year-old boy recovering from a liver transplant and gave him Carter's helmet. Good job, Bungie. See a ton of photos here.

  • There has been a lot of controversy over the Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition. Fans didn't know if they were getting theirs, orders were canceled, and some eBay seller sold over 200 of them. Bandai Namco said that they made no deal with the eBay seller and blame Digital River for the over-orders. I received shipping confirmation for mine, so that's great news for me at least.

  • There's going to be a new Ghost in the Shell series called Ghost in the Shell: Arise. Not much known about it except that it will be out this year and there's an image of Motoko Kusanagi kind of dressed like Kaneda form Akira.

  • Some guy named Nic Mathieu is going to direct the Robotech movie. Has has some cool commercials under his belt, so that's something.

Of course Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has a classic samurai showdown-esque scene. Although, I don't think this will be over with one running slash.

  • It's time to see the badass bosses of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance strut their swordplay. MGR:R's new boss trailer is quite awesome. Mistral, Monsoon, Sundowner, and Samuel are going to be some tough fights. Meanwhile, IGN has an interview with Hideo Kojima where he reveals that the original protagonist of MGR:R was going to be Cyborg Ninja Gray Fox or Frank Jaeger, but his staff insisted that it should be Raiden. He also talks a little about the Fox Engine and admits he's seen the Phantom Pain trailer (but that's it about PP).

  • Dead Island: Riptide was going to have an incredibly bizarre Zombie Bait Edition, but then they announced it... and everybody hated it so much that Deep Silver apologized and canned it. A severed female torso in a bikini covered in blood, zombie bites, and open wounds is not appealing to most people. Most people because I'm sure there are some fans out there that wanted nothing more than a severed bust of bloody zombie munched breasts.

  • Europe's collector's edition of Injustice: Gods Among Us has a way better statue than North America's CE. And they get a Steelbook! Europe definitely wins this time. If the NA CE had that statue I would actually want it. The game should be out on April 1 in the US and April 19th for those lucky fans in Europe.

  • All the Skyrim DLC that Bethesda couldn't get to work on the PS3 is hitting PS3 in February. It'll also be 50% off for the first week, which is great. A lot of PS3 Skyrim players are going to be happy about this. Also, check out this amazing Skyrim cosplay from fan Chris Wolvie. That costume is incredible.

  • Pandora's Tower, the Wii's RPG that no one thought would be released in North America, is actually coming out, supposedly on March 26th.

  • Dead or Alive 5 Plus is getting a collector's edition in Japan that includes a gravure video. Touch screen and a gravure video? Yep. Will there be anything else to up the creep factor?

  • The 2014 Corvette became available for Gran Turismo 5 as a free download a day after the real car was revealed. Damn, Polyphony has some pull in the auto world.

  • Some new character called Lumina is in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and looks a lot like Lightning's sister Serah. Clone? Relative? Something incredibly complicated and inexplicable? Meanwhile, here are more things to know about the third FFXIII.

  • There are six free games for PlayStation Mobile for the next six weeks. The first one is Samurai Beatdown, a cool side-scrolling samurai pseudo rhythm game. A new game will be out each Wednesday for free.

  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus will have a tag missions where Ryu can tag out with any of the ladies. There's also a Ninja Race mode where you have to keep the clock going by killing enemies and grabbing items.

  • Despite the new ThunderCats getting cancelled, Mezco is continuing their 14" mega-scale Classic ThunderCats figures. The next is Cheetara with 10 points of articulation and will probably be hard to find because it's Cheetara. I still want to see a Ma-Mutt to go with my mega Mumm-Ra.

  • Ruler of Outworld Shao Kahn is the next 1/4 scale Mortal Kombat statue from Pop Culture Shock.

  • If you were worried that A Good Day to Die Hard would puss out and be rated PG-13, don't; it'll be rated R so no poor editing and censoring.

  • Terminator 5 has a couple writers now, so maybe there will be another Terminator. Or maybe the whole thing will get canned and Terminator will go into limbo again.

An early design for Mistral had her as a mannequin-esque cyborg in a tendril strait jacket, but it wasn't perverse/weird enough, so she was changed more.

  • Platinum Games has revealed some rockin' concept art for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. They primarily have art for the characters Mistral and Sam, but also a little for soldiers and unused characters. Meanwhile, a new, short trailer for MGR:R shows off alternate costumes for Raiden, like Cyborg Ninja, his MGS4 version, and that white outfit of that exclusive Play Arts Kai figure.

  • The unusually named Dead Space 3 Dev-Team Edition has a ton of goodies. It's got an 8" Marker statue, aluminum Data Pad, Med Pack water bottle, SCAF journal, SCAF posters, Peng postcards, and a 96-page mini art book, all packed in a SCAF tin crate. This is limited to 5000 pieces and you can even buy it with the game for $160 or without the game for $100.

  • Continuing the weird named editions, the Dead Island: Riptide Rigor Mortis Edition will have a zombie hula girl bobble figurine, zombie arm bottle opener, bungalow key, and the game with DLC in a suitcase. What a crappy vacation.

  • Since Lego started making Marvel building sets it was inevitable that there would be a Lego Marvel Super Heroes game. Lego Marvel will be out this Fall. Now we just have to wait for the inevitable announcement for a Lego TMNT game.

  • Warner Bros. has registered fifteen domains related to Batman Arkham something or other. Some of these include Arkham Universe, Arkham Arises, Arkham Legends, Arkham Origins, and Arkham Stories. So, if any of these are for the next Arkham game, a strong possibility, which one will be the real name? I'm hoping for Arkham Universe because maybe there'll be a new Arkham Asylum on the Moon and Batman will be in space.

  • Capcom Arcade Cabinet is an upcoming collection of 30 old Capcom games coming to PSN and XBLA. More information is coming in February.

  • DMC Devil May Cry will be getting Bloody Palace Mode as free DLC. There will be 100 floors and 5 bosses to test your mettle.

  • Playmates are adding Bebop and Rocksteady to wave 2 of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classics line. Those two classic henchmen are so much better than the crappy Dogpound and Fishface from the new cartoon. We'll get to see these at Toy Fair in a month.

  • It looks like DC's Masters of the Universe comic mini-series has been doing well, because they just announced an on-going monthly series. So far I've enjoyed the take on these characters. In the upcoming series, She-Ra is under the control of Hordak. Craziness!

  • NECA's Half-Life Gravity Gun went up for pre-order this week. Can I expect to see a bunch of cosplayers with these at conventions like I did the Portal Gun?

  • The writer for Hanna will write the Shadow of the Colossus movie. I haven't seen Hanna, so I have no idea if this is good or not, but either way there will probably be way too many characters in the movie.

  • Joseph Gordon Levitt and Josh Brolin have been added to the cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Seems like this movie was announced decade ago.
