Movies / TV

  • The first trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came online this week and what bothers me most is the look of the turtles. Why are the turtles so big? There's no way they could fit through a typical sewer hole. And forget about sneaking around when they're clomping around everywhere with their huge feet. They also look like Shrek without their masks. And that nose? Gross. Shredder is a white businessman and seemingly created the Turtles along with April's father, which eliminates any ancient feud within a Japanese clan. I'm all for seeing new interpretations of characters, but the Turtles themselves are looking terrible. Regardless of how bad the Turtles look, this movie is going to be huge. Here's hoping it's at least not as bad as Transformers 2 and 3.

  • Here's Ultron's head from Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now that's a comic to movie character that looks good, and we haven't even seen the entire character yet.

  • Indiana Jones might become like Bond, with a new actor playing the role every so many movies. I'm not sure if that would work with Indy. Would all the stories be confined to the 1930s - 60s?

  • There will be a Prometheus 2 in 2016. Hopefully it will actually make sense.

  • NECA posted a photo of their 18" Master Chief prototype. The Chief has lots of articulation and alternate hands. I'm not sure I need more Halo figures after having an army's worth of the McFarlane figures, but it does look great.

Do we need another Master Chief figure? It's from NECA, so maybe.

  • Godzilla Heisei is the next S.H. MonsterArts figure. Big G will include atomic breath effects.

  • Wolfenstein: The New Order is getting a Panzerhund Edition that includes a ton of stuff except the game. It's like that Dead Space 3 edition that came out a couple years ago without the game. This includes a Steelbook, an 8" articulated Panzerhund statue, classified documents, postcards, and patches all in a footlocker box. I'm wondering how much articulation that Panzerhund actually has. This is exclusive to the Bethesda store and is $100. Consider that if it did include the game it would be $160.

Everything but the game.

  • 5pb posted the opening movie for Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst. I like that it shows us close-ups of the top of the ships we can't normally see when zoomed out in a top-down shooter.

  • The Arkham Knight looks like a badass future version of Batman. Who will be under the armor?

G.I. Joe

  • You would think G.I. Joe's 50th anniversary would be a big deal. Well apparently Hasbro doesn't think so. They have dismantled the G.I. Joe team and will not be at the Joe Con this year for the 50th anniversary celebration. I have doubts that the 50th anniversary figures shown at Toy Fair will even be released now. I can see G.I. Joe returning to retail in some years, like it has in the past, but this is a huge milestone and there should have been something much bigger for the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic brands ever. At leas IDW's G.I. Joe comics will still be going, with A Real America Hero celebrating its 200th issue this month.

Even though G.I Joe isn't having much of a 50th anniversary, IDW's comics are still going strong.

TV / Movies

Sailor Moon returns, with more hair than you can possibly imagine.

  • The third Captain America movie will be going up against the Batman / Superman movie on May 6th, 2016. It's going to be Marvel Vs. DC at the box office. Marvel originally claimed the date for a movie, then DC announced B/S will be on the date, and now Marvel puts CA3 in the slot. This will be interesting to see if someone backs down or if they both stick to the date.

  • Biff Bang Pow is making retro 3.75" Twilight Zone figures. These actually look really good. Super7's Alien ReAction line were cool, but I'm not feeling the most of the rest of the Funko ReAction line. Biff Bang Pow's retro figures look great, though. I need an Invader figure. That Talky Tina is creepy as hell, though. The first figures will be out in August.

  • Running Press has a mini H.I.S.S. tank with book coming out in September. The H.I.S.S. will have lights and sounds, while the book is 48 pages. Hey, it' something G.I. Joe related coming out.

Tiny H.I.S.S. tank is a new G.I Joe product we can hopefully count on.

  • Clear, in-focus photos of the Masterpiece Bumblebee prototype have appeared and give us a much better look at the upcoming Transformer. Bumblebee will have interchangeable faces, while the exclusive version includes a masked face. The way Hasbro works, it'll probably bee a few years before Bumblebee makes it over to the U.S.

  • Funko is making a new line of soft figures, called Fabrikations. They're kind of like plush, but can stand like a figure. The first wave includes Boba Fett, Yoda, Batman, Harley Quinn, and Deadpool. That Boba Fett is fantastic.

  • Shifty Look is ending. The comic site that brought back old Namco characters will be ending updates on March 20th, with the servers completely shutting down on September 30th. The Wonder Momo game and books from Udon are still coming out, and the anime will still be online, so there will be something, at least. Visit Shifty Look for all the details and say goodbye to a site that brought us back some old-school gaming love.

Shifty Look may be ending, but Wonder Momo is still coming out, so you'll be able to kick dinosaurs in the head.

  • How about an NES made out of aircraft grade aluminum? The Analogue Nt plays NES and Famicom cartridges, has RGB video, Hi-Fi audio, and four controller ports. This systems wants to give you the best NES experience possible. Pre-orders start in March, but I'm a little scared to see how expensive this is going to end up being.

  • The latest update for Mighty No. 9 sheds a little light about the story... and it's basically a re-telling of Mega Man. There was a global robot rampage where all the robots went bad except for Beck. Beck's creator, Dr. White, tasked him with saving the world. Good robots going bad? Dr. White instead of Dr. Light? Yeah, totally Mega Man.

  • There will be a Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth 3DS XL. The front art design is like a Persona compendium, with the characters on the back of the system. It looks awesome, but this is most likely going to be only for Japan.

  • Batman: Arkham Knight was announced and Bat-mania ensued. This is a proper sequel to Arkham Asylum/City made by Rocksteady, not the buggy cash-in that Origins was. Apparently, Arkham Knight is the name of a new Batman villain being introduced in the game. The new world is said to be five times the size of Arkham City and you can drive the Batmobile to cruise around. Speaking of which, the new Batmobile has headlights in the tires. Batman thinks of everything. Arkham Knight will be out later this year for PS4 and Xbox One. It doesn't seem like it's hitting PS3 or the Xbox 360, so those who want to finish the proper Arkham trilogy are going to have to upgrade.

Headlights in the tires!

  • PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is coming to PS4 and Vita this Summer. Ultimate combines both PixelJunk Shooter 1 and 2 into a complete game, with updated visuals, a redesigned ship on and 60 frames-per-second on PS4, a new heads-up display, a new scoring system, and cross-play. I love the PixelJunk Shooter games, so I'll definitely re-play them on the PS4 and maybe on the Vita.

  • Keiji Inafune and Inti-Creates' upcoming 3DS game is Azure Striker: GunVolt. The story is that Gunvolt is ordered to kill a virtual pop star, but doesn't and gets swept up in fighting super-powered psychics. Sounds bizarrely awesome. It's looking cool and will be out this summer on the eShop. If only I had a 3DS.

  • Indie shooter Galak-Z will be hitting the Vita... sometime.

  • These delicious Gundam donuts are available at the Gundam Cafe. The RX-78 Gundam has white chocolate with candy antenna and eyes. Char's donut has strawberry and chocolate coating with candy antenna and eye. There's also a Haro donut thing.

The one year donut war.

  • Gaming Heads is bringing out a resin statue based off the original cover art for Doom. It's pretty impressive. Called Doom: Knee Deep in the Dead, it's 12.5" tall and 17" wide. At $374.99, it's a bit out of my price range, but it still looks incredible. The exclusive edition has a light-up base.

One of the most iconic of videogame cover art, now in a statue.

  • Hello Kitty's next crossover is with Playboy. Is this supposed to be sexy? Will we see Hello Kitty in an upcoming issue of Playboy? If you are someone who is really hoping there will be a nude Hello Kitty out of this, then you may need to take a look at your life.

  • Write of the excellent comic Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, Chris Mowry, got his hands on an early Jakks Pacific Godzilla figure. The figure is 12" tall and over 40" long. Some stores are apparently ignoring street dates.

Movies / TV

  • Finally Optimus is in his G1 semi form in a live-action Transformers movie. The first full trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction explains how Mark Wahlberg gets involved with the Transformers, but not why Optimus is suddenly a junked version of his G1 self. Did the Autobots go into hiding?

  • The oft-delayed Sin City sequel, A Dame to Kill For, is out on august 22nd. Here's the first trailer.

  • I can't believe it's been 30 years since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made their debut. I feel incredibly old right now. The creative duo of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird are re-teaming for a special 30th Anniversary issue for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is the first time in over 20 years that the two have worked on TMNT together. The issue will have short stories from the different eras of TMNT. Man, 30 years of TMNT in my life.

Thirty years of Turtle Power!

Movies / TV

  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions is on Netflix March 7th. The trailer shows a lot of Yoda action and looks to shed some light on the whole Sifo-Dyas putting in the order for the Clone army and the creation of Order 66. It appears the cartoon will explain things that were left unanswered in prequel movies. Also, where is Ahsoka? She has to make some kind appearance so we know what happened to her, right? I need to know! I also need to find a friend with Netflix.

  • There's a new Godzilla trailer! And a video of Director Gareth Edwards explaining a few things in the trailer, which doesn't give anything away, but hints at some possibilities. Still no full reveal of Big-G, but we kind of know based on the leaked toys.

  • The Lego Movie 2 will be bringing another insane amount of awesome on May 26th, 2017. Since Lego has Marvel now, will there be DC and Marvel characters?

  • There's going to be a movie called Console Wars based on the upcoming book Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation. What's weird is that Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg will be writing and directing it. So, should the movie not be taken seriously?

  • We'll find out if anything can be worse than Heroes season 4 when Heroes: Reborn arrives in 2015.

  • An old Transformers fan built an 18-foot tall Bumblebee statue for his son. It stands in his yard south of Fresno, CA. It's awesome and his next project is a 30-foot tall Optimus Prime. I think I need to visit the next time I'm down that way.

Life-size Bumblebee is kind of on the way to Comic-Con.

  • Jakks Pacific is making real life Mario Karts. They don't have weapons, but they do have sounds from the games along with on and off-road tires. Unfortunately, they can only hold up to 70-pounds, so all of us who played the original game are out of luck.

This kid is having way mot Mario Kart fun than you ever will.

  • Ashley Wood and Todd McFarlane's team-up is for 1/6 Spawn figures coming from ThreeA. It's been way too long since there were any new Spawn action figures, so this is awesome news.

  • Attack on Titan now has a ten-patty burger with it's own "wall sleeve" featuring the colossal titan at Lotteria. The burgers include key rings of titan-fighting equipment.

  • The next Masterpiece is Bumblebee, so Takara decided to show off a silhouette teaser. Yep, that's Bumblebee.

  • Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn is coming to North America in the Summer on PS3. I'm happy we're finally getting another Gundam game, especially one where we get to pilot the Mobile Armor. This will only be released as a download, though, which sucks for those you still enjoy physical media. Hopefully this is just paving the way for more Gundam games in the U.S.

Take down entire armies with just the Square button.

  • Speaking of Gundam, here's a trailer for the HD remake of Blue Destiny in the Mobile Suit Gundam: Side Story Collection. It would be amazing if this could get a release in the U.S.

  • The Next Penelope is a cool indie title I can get behind. It's like a top-down F-Zero, but with some shooter aspects and boos fights. It looks pretty awesome.

  • Gran Turismo 5's servers are shutting down on May 30th or this year. Wow, why so soon? Don't tons of people still play this online? Some DLC pack will also no longer be available to buy, so get them while you can.

  • Steel Empire will be hitting the 3DS eShop this month... in Japan.

  • BioShock Infinite will be getting a 1998 Mode with the Burial at Sea 2 DLC. 1999 Mode was the hardest difficulty, but 1998 Mode wants you to complete it with non-lethal means.

  • I never realized that the first Shin Megami Tensei was never released in the U.S. that's kind of crazy considering how many there are. It'll be hitting iOS on March 18th, which is too bad for those of us that don't have an iOS. Release this on a real game system!
