Games

No ninja flips out better than Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa.

  • A poster on the Xbox forums with lots of time on his hands has posted summaries of Halo, Halo 2, and the first three novels. This might be good for fans that may have forgotten a few things that occurred in the Halo universes or for the lazy people that haven't played the first two games, but are jumping on the Halo 3 hype wagon anyways.

  • Previously only for the Wii and DS, Godzilla: Unleashed will also be heading to the PlayStation 2. The game will have extra monsters not in the other versions.

  • The Wii Zapper will include Link's Crossbow Training as its pack-in title.

  • In an interview with Game Informer, Castlevania creator Koji Igarashi said he thinks the next Castlevania should be on the Xbox 360... and maybe on the PS3. This would be after the PSP remake of Rondo of Blood and the upcoming DS sequel.

  • There is an 11" PVC statue of Final Fight's femme fatale Poison. Poison was the chick in Final Fight that wasn't a tranny. I think. After Final Fight she has been Hugo's sidekick in Street Fighter 3.

  • Yet another new shooter was seen this week, but in video form: Death Smiles from Cave.

  • A GameStop manager has been suspended because he refused to sell games to kids that couldn't prove they were getting good grades in school. This guy had a good policy. Kids need to learn before they con their parents into getting them a game.

Movies

  • Christian Bale may be up for the role of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie in 2009, if this forum post about the latest issue of UK magazine Nuts is to be believed. He could probably do a close enough voice to David Hayter's and he would definitely need to grow a sweet mullet.

  • Alex Garland's original Halo script may have been leaked. A 1up user found the 128 page script and sent it to 1up. The script had been abandoned and the new Halo script was written by DB Weiss, however if the movie still never gets made it won't matter. Visit 1up to read pages from Garland's Halo script.

Weekly News Roundup: 09/09/2007

I'm in your Muay Thai, practicin' tiger uppercuts.

  • Street Fighter: The Later Years is back! Episode 4 debuted on College Humor on Friday and now the series is being presented in super turbo widescreen. There are some great gags this time. The only bad things are that these episodes are only a few minutes long and we have to wait until October for episode 5.

  • Hey, guess what? There's another new Dreamcast shooter in development. It's called Mamonoro and is made by the same developers that did Senko no Ronde, Under Defeat, and Border Down. Gotta love that Dreamcast.

  • The Video Games Live CD was officially confirmed for October 15th. It will not actually be live recordings of their music, but in-studio versions of their gaming symphonies. That's good news because now we don't have to hear the crowd when all we want is to listen to the music.

  • Nintendo has responded to CVG about the Metroid Dread rumor that was sparked from a line of text in Metroid Prime 3. Nintendo told CVG, "Nintendo is not making the 2D Metroid at this point in time." That's sad news for everyone.

  • The name for the F.E.A.R. sequel has officially been chosen by the fans. The game will be called Project Origin. Well, let's hope the game is better than the name.

  • Time magazine writer Lev Grossman insulted all gamers everywhere when he wrote an article about Halo 3. The article wasn't just about Halo though; Much of it was him making insults at gamers and calling gaming a ghetto. We are unaware of when Time changed their format to trash media.

  • The dragon flying game Lair made by Star Wars game veterans Factor 5 has been getting bad reviews. Sony is saying that the consumers will decide and had the balls to send out a Reviewer's Guide to help critics review the game. Well, we were open to the SIXAXIS controls, but Lair's controls are incredibly frustrating and infuriating. There are things about Lair that are cool, but the game is hurt with a very poor control scheme. This should be a note to other developers, though: Do not make games that only have SIXAXIS control. At least Lair has its own hot coffee.

  • Yoichi Wada, president of mega gaming company Square Enix, said that Sony needs consistent PS3 marketing. He stated that Sony began marketing it as a home electronics product and shifted to a game console and because of this, consumers are confused.

  • The new Street Fighter movie now has a director: Andrzej Bartkowiak. Bartkowiak has directed the poor hip-hop action movies Romeo Must Die, Cradle to the Grave, and Exit Wounds. He also has one game movie directorial credit with Doom. The new Street Fighter will focus on Chun Li's quest for mega-thigh justice. It can't be any worse than the Van Damme Street Fighter, can it?

Movies

The Joust movie will only be worth watching if it retains the high-concept of evil dudes on ostriches popping out of eggs.

  • Joust will be made into a film. A new film company called CP Productions is handling the project. The bad thing is that they want to market it to those under 25, meaning not the people that would appreciate Joust the most. There are also plans to release a Joust graphic novel that will launch the "new Joust franchise." All this new Joust stuff could be kind of cool or very, very bad.

  • Rumor has it that there might be another Dune movie in the works. No, not a sequel, but rather a remake of Dune... again. Look, we love the Dune films more than most people should, but seriously, give it a rest.

Games

  • The greatest puzzle game ever made, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is now available on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Have you not downloaded it yet? Why the hell not? Get it now!

  • A certain scanned panel in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is giving fans hope of a long lost Metroid game. While scanning things in the game, IGN discovered the message that read "Experiment status report update. Metroid project "Dread" is nearing the final stages of completion." Metroid: Dread was a cancelled DS game that would have put Samus in a new side-scrolling adventure. Nintendo has yet to comment on the message.

  • The third Phoenix Wright game, Ace Attorney 3: Trials and Tribulations, is getting a cool pre-order bonus: a plush Phoenix Wright. No objections here. The plush will be available at Gamestop and the Capcom store.

  • ScrewAttack's next top ten list is near to our heart: Top Ten Ninjas. Although, they take some liberties on who is actually a ninja. The Kung Fu guy is a Kung Fu guy, not a ninja.

TV

  • It's being reported that Battlestar Galactica might not end in '08 as thought, but rather the final season might be split into two parts according to Aint it cool news. Now if you go there to read the article there are possible spoilers. If you want to avoid them just read the grey update block quote at the very end.
