Summary A girl with no memory finds out she’s an expert killer… and constantly depressed. My Thoughts Let’s see here… girls, guns, and assassins. Well that seemed like a decent combination so I checked out the AniMini DVD of Noir. The name of the episode is “Maidens with Black Hands.” So, since the girls have guns on the DVD cover I’ll assume that either they have black hands from all the killing they’re about to do or that they're expertly trained chimney sweeps and clean chimneys are a matter of life or death. The episode begins with professional assassin Mireille checking her email. She opens an email from Kirika that says they should meet at some warehouse. Most likely the warehouse is abandoned. Mireille gets ready to go and all of a sudden a melody starts playing from the email. For some reason the music freaks her out. Mireille arrives at the warehouse and chases around Kirika. Kirika then opens her pocket watch where the tune plays again and Mireille gets freaked out once more. A bunch of guys suddenly show up and start shooting at them for no reason and a techno version of the tune plays. So far, I have no idea what the hell is going on and this melody is really getting on my nerves. After a few of the guys are killed the remaining men capture Mireille. Kirika then whips out a gun and blows them all away. The two girls go back to Mireille’s place and Kirika explains that she just woke up one day with no memory of who she is. She found the gun and pocket watch in a drawer and needs Mireille’s help to discover her past and find out who she is. Kirika doesn’t understand how she knows how to kill and how she can do it so easily. Mireille tells her that when this is over she’ll have to kill her. Kirika says, “I’ll be waiting for that moment.” Not only does she have amnesia, but she also wants to die. What a truly original character this Kirika is. After viewing this episode I do not want to watch any more of this series. The AniMini DVD failed. This episode of Noir was so excruciatingly boring that, like Kirika, I was waiting for someone to pull the trigger so it could all be over with. The characters were way to serious for their own good. I just couldn't take this episode seriously. I’m betting that damn song plays at least twice and episode, too. Maybe the rest of the series is decent, but this episode was so bad that I could care less. Score: Noir episode 1: 3.0 -Shawn
