Play Arts Kai Batman and Joker Black & White SDCC Exclusives

Square Enix released official photos and info for their black & white edition Play Arts Kai Arkham Asylum Batman and Joker figures that are kind of SDCC 2012 exclusives. I say kind of because according to the product page, these can only be pre-ordered at the Square Enix online store, but they won't be sent to SDCC; they'll be mailed to your shipping address on July 12th. So, if they can only be ordered online and they're shipped to your house, then SDCC doesn't really have a part in this. One sentence suggests that they might be at SDCC: "If you want to secure your copy, avoid long lines at the show, or simply canít make it to SDCC, pre-order online now!" So then they will be at SDCC? Maybe, but if you can basically buy it before the show like any other figure you can buy online, even if they are at the show, it's almost not an SDCC exclusive. Even though it is.

That said, it's cool that Square Enix is letting anyone who wants these buy them before SDCC and not even have to be there. Most other companies that have SDCC exclusives will have an online sale after the show for remaining stock, or will make a specified amount for the "after SDCC" sale. Square Enix haven't released any info on how limited these are, but since they're Arkham Asylum Batman and Joker in black & white, then I would expect these to be quite popular. It's also great to see that these don't have an inflated price because of their "exclusivity," as each figure is $59.99, which is standard pricing for Play Arts Kai figures. You can check out more photos or pre-order them over at Square Enix.

At least this Arkham Asylum Batman figure doesn't have an inexplicably blue cowl and gloves.

Joker almost looks more menacing in black & white.
