Anime Style DC Women Gone Mostly Wrong

The purple drink Catwoman is an anime styled DC woman gone right.

I'm almost done with the Comic-Con updates, but I needed to bring up the Ame-Comi DC statues. Paul is a big lover of all things Supergirl and Power Girl. Paul hates almost all anime and manga. Upon seeing the first pictures of his favorite DC super chicks in anime-style in an issue of ToyFare of months past, he nearly had an aneurism. I enjoy many anime series. However, just because I like anime doesn't mean I like what has become of the DC heroines.

The statues, or at least the concept art for the statues, were designed by Udon Studios. I'm a lover of Udon's art work, specifically their stuff for Street Fighter and other Capcom properties because Udon does some amazing stuff. The art for the statues is in Udon's anime-ish style and it looks good. However, something seems to have gone wrong from the art to the finished statue for a few of the DC women.

Supergirl is the prime example of a bad move from 2-D to 3-D and she's taken most of it in her face. She has the face of an innocent 12-year-old, especially with her expression of extra super happiness. It's like her mommy just came home from the store with a fresh bag of Oreos. It's very wrong and I feel gross just looking at that Supergirl statue.

The same goes for Power Girl. Power Girl is the DC universe's biggest and best eye candy because of her costume that has a strategically placed opening right above her intense cleavage. Her face looks a little older, possibly 13-years-old, and I still feel dirty looking at her with that cleavage window. Power Girl is anime jailbait in full effect.

When I first saw the Batgirl statue, I didn't think she appeared too bad, but the more I look at her, the more I dislike her. With her mask it's hard to tell if she looks too young, but that's probably more of a good thing. Maybe it's her costume, the gold highlights, or her pose, but I'm not digging the Batgirl. What is she pointing at? Oh, wait, maybe that's a disco pose.

I'm more of a Catwoman man myself and I have to say that the Catwoman statue turned out great. You may say I'm just playing favorites, but I also tend to like Power Girl and her statue is horrid. Catwoman will come in purple and black versions for those that prefer the cat in certain colors. Catwoman, along with Batgirl, will be one of the first Ame-Comi statues released.

Wonder Woman is the other statues that actually looks good. She has a cool Amazonian warrior version of her costume with a big sword and a shield. Maybe it's the fact that Catwoman and Wonder Woman have 'woman' in their names that makes them look acceptable in everyday life. The other three all have 'girl' in their names and all look like pre-teens with porn star bodies. Granted, nearly every comic heroine has a porn star's body these days, but the face needs to match the goods.

The sixth Ame-Comi is Cheetah. Her statue was not on display, but the art for her concept art has been released. She's wearing ninja shoes and sports a big cheetah claw weapon. It looks promising, but it could really go either way. She'll either turn out to be a ninja warrior with orange body paint or a well-endowed underage furry that appeals to the creepies.

The rest of the statues are below.

Supergirl hasn't looked more like a bigger underage bimbo than she does here.

Look directly at this Power Girl's cleavage window and you end up in jail.

What are you pointing at Batgirl? You want me to win you a pony, is that it?

Wonder Woman actually looks like the 'woman' part of her name.
