Pimp Daddy Destro and Exclusives for Everybody

If I was on the street I'd want "Pimp Daddy" Destro as my pimp.

With every San Diego Comic-Con there was an erroneous amount of exclusives that could only be obtained at the show. Be it Wizkids' Halo 3 Scarab or Fin Fang Foom, NECA's Simon Belmont, SOTA's Turquoise Dan, Star Wars Shop's Shadow Scout Trooper, AFX's Grimlock bust, or the endless number of comics with alternate SDCC covers, there was something for everyone somewhere at the 'con. The one place with the most exclusives and that really did have something for everyone had to have been the HasbroToyShop.com booth. They had exclusives that any comic fan, movie fan, cartoon fan, sci-fi fan, and normal everyday girl would enjoy... only if they didn't sell out.

The one thing that I was looking to get was the G.I. Joe "Pimp Daddy" Destro figure. This version of Destro was based on a previous Destro figure that has become near legendary. The short version is that in the 90s Hasbro made a few figures of Destro in a maroon and leopard print outfit before they cancelled it and ceased production. The costume earned him the name "Pimp Daddy" Destro and is a very difficult and expensive figure to find. For G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero's 25th Anniversary Hasbro re-made the figure with today's sculpting and detail and had it as a SDCC exclusive. Not only did they make Destro with his usual silver mask, but also in his short-lived gold head making two new versions of the baddest pimp around.

Hasbro's other exclusives were nothing to ignore, either. They boasted two Transformers exclusives: a super cool Alternators Rodimus as a Ford GT and titanium Menasor which was a repaint of the titanium Rodimus Prime. For Star Wars they had a Ralph McQuarrie concept Obi-Wan with Yoda, and a pink R2 droid named R2-KT. The story of R2-KT is actually kind of sad because the figure was made for a little girl with cancer.

Hasbro had two Marvel exclusives with Marvel Legends She-Hulk and a Stan Lee figure. Stan Lee came in a slick looking window box and extra costume pieces so you could turn him into Spiderman. In hindsight maybe it was something I should have thought about buying because it's probably the only figure of Stan Lee that will ever be made and, well, it's Stan Lee.

There was a Battlestar Galactica exclusive, but it wasn't that exciting. Instead of repainting anything Hasbro just put three of the titanium ships together in one three-pack. If you already bought them at retail, there was no reason to get them, unless you were some sort of Battlestar Galactica super-nut that needs absolutely everything.

The most unique item in Hasbro's exclusives was the My Little Pony. A My Little Pony was dressed as some kind of superhero pony complete with a "Pony Power" tattoo near her ass. I got the chance to take a look at one and while it was neat and all for the ladies, it wasn't in any kind of cool packaging. All it came in was a plain white box. It's great that Hasbro was really reaching out to the female audience, but they could have put at least some effort into making a matching Pony Power package, especially for something that was $20.

You can never truly sell out of Pony Power. Or so I'm told.

Because we were royally punched in the balls with traffic, we arrived in San Diego about three hours later than what we thought we would, giving us zero amount of time at the show on Friday. One of our first stops Saturday morning was the HasbroToyShop booth so we could grab a "Pimp Daddy" Destro or two for ourselves. However, when we go tot the booth there was a sign that displayed what exclusives were sold out.

We were also handed a sheet that said what was available and the limit. Both Destro figures were sold out, as well as the titanium Menasor, and I think the Battlestar Galactica three-pack. The Alternators Rodimus was down to a limit of one. Some fool at Hasbro thought that a limit of three per person was good. Well, three per person is a huge limit for a convention exclusive. If a booth is going to impose a limit the highest they should ever go is two per person. Three just welcomes those that will buy up as many as they can to throw on eBay and make a hefty profit. If I read the sheet correctly, then each Destro was considered a separate exclusive, meaning some jerks probably walked off with six pimps in their greasy mitts. No wonder they sold out before the second full day even began. A few hours later the My Little Ponys were also sold out.

Paul was able to secure a couple silver Destros off of the actual HasbroToyShop.com for us when they were made available for a limited time (probably a few hours). They did not have any gold head variants online, but I tend prefer my arms dealing pimps in silver anyway.
