Söldner-X 2 Announced

My favorite line from the first game: "The controls suggest that a large enemy is nearing. How can anything be so big?"

Due to "amazing feedback" on their awesome debut title Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer, EastAsiaSoft has announced a sequel, Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype. While the first game was first released on the PC and ported to PlayStation Network later on, this time Söldner-X 2 will be a PlayStation Network exclusive right out of the box. Those that enjoy hefty Limited Editions are out of luck unless Eastasiasoft has anything planned like a separate soundtrack or other stuff for those that may want the full Söldner-X 2 experience. For the sequel, the player returns to Gota IV as part of a Söldner-X defense force. Hey, they got their own defense force and not just one guy! That's great news. Here is the handy dandy bullet-pointed list of all the new features pulled straight from the press release:

• Seven unique action-loaded levels with fierce boss battles, staged across Underwater Worlds, Ice Caves, Tunnel Worlds, Space and other deadly scenarios.
• High definition graphics with 3D backgrounds in up to 1080p.
• Dynamic score-linked difficulty system, making the game accessible for newcomers, yet challenging and rewarding for hardcore gamers.
• Two new playerships with their own characteristics and weapon systems to choose from.
• Brand new limit attacks and fourfold chaser system.
• New bullet pattern system.
• Detailed online high score ranking tables and replay file sharing.
• Hidden bonus elements, including a tribute to Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer.
• Adrenaline pumping soundtrack with more than 15 unique tracks and over a hundred sound effects.

What I really find intriguing is the score-linked difficulty system, which basically means the better you are, the more difficult the game is. The promo shots packed with the press release show the two new ships, which are much pointier than the first ship. The first game was overly gorgeous in its visuals, so I expect more from the sequel. Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype will be out sometime in Winter 2009/2010.
