Someone Let the ThunderCats Out of the Bag

Bandai unveiled the new look of the ThunderCats and a few of their upcoming toys at Toy Fair in the U.K. No photos were allowed, but of course at least one person got away with some blurry-yet-decent shots of what matters. Behold, the new ThunderCats.

The new ThunderCats are on the move, earlier than Bandai wanted.

Overall it's a damn fine redesign. The art and animation is done by Studio 4C, so the anime design should be obvious, but its not totally overpowering, like the anime-influenced designs of the 2002 Masters of the Universe cartoon. Well, except Lion-O kind of resembles every other male anime protagonist just as a ThunderCat. Panthro looks a little weird the huge mutton chops, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Tygra and Cheetara look super solid so far.

You see that G.I. Joe: Renegades? That is a great initial promo image, not the poorly chosen images you were trying to gather interest with.

This coolness isn't all though, as Bandai were also showing off some of the new figures and vehicles.

The 3&3/4-inch figure size was a good call because then you get awesome vehicles.

What you see is an extendable Sword of Omens, the four main 'Cats as 3&3/4-inch figures, the new freaking Thunder Tank, and some kind of Thunder Cycle thing. There will also be a series of larger 8-inch collector figures based on the classic designs. According to user Dr. Slump, the source of the photos, over on the ThunderCats Lair message boards, the cycle can actually be stored in the Thunder Tank, which is awesome. You can see a blurry photo of the ThunderCats Tower (Lair) playset there, too.

So far I'm really liking what I'm seeing and am certainly on board for the new cartoon, whenever it starts. Now we just have to wait until Bandai release some official non-blurry assets so we can be even more excited. (ThunderCats Lair via Poe Ghostal)
