Spawn Redeems "Popular" Classics

Manga Spawn 2 hails from the Tokyo drift scene and is fueled by teenage angst.

Spawn.com updated with the first images of the 34th series of Spawn figures, Spawn Classics. This series resurrects four figures from past Spawn lines and reinvents their looks for. They could have just name this series Spawn Reborn series 4 since this line has the exact same idea as the Reborn line; re-doing previous figures. The line only has four figures instead of the usual six, which seems a little odd. These four are based on popular figures, but I don't remember two of them ever being that popular.

First in the line is Manga Spawn. Manga Spawn was originally released eleven years ago in 1997's series 9. Wow, has it really been over a decade since Manga Spawn? Manga Spawn is still one of my all time favorite figures. You could take the helmet off to reveal Spawn's head, but I always thought of him as more like a Gundam. I wonder if Manga Spawn 2's head will one off. This version has much bigger arms and is designed a little more like the Adventures of Spawn animated style. He has got some nifty guns, tubes, and "series 34" lettering to give him a drift-racer look, but isn't nearly as cool as the original. He does work for the angst-filled robot enthusiast in me, though.

The second popular figure to be re-imagined is Pirate Spawn from 2002's series 21. Wait, Pirate Spawn was popular? I never thought Pirate Spawn was that great and thought he looked a bit ridiculous. Pirate Spawn 2 is directly for the more elaborate pirate-loving fan and doesn't in any way look influenced by the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I do like his red coat, as the first one lacked anything big, red, and flowing. This guy still looks a little silly, but it's a pirate, what else do you really expect?

Third up is the anthropomorphic elephant Poacher. Now hold on, McFarlane's cheating a little on this one because the original figure was never in a Spawn line. Poacher appeared in the Total Chaos 2 line from 1997, which contained original characters made just for action figures. Plus, I don't any of the figures in the line were popular. Maybe Todd just really liked this guy and wanted to bring him back. Poacher looks neat and all, but I'm not in the market for a warrior elephant these days.

The fourth figure is easily the best in the line and, like Pirate Spawn, also comes from series 21. If any of the figures is a truly worthy successor to the original it's Wings of Redemption Spawn 2. The first WOR Spawn was a very popular figure, so much so that McFarlane Toys released a twelve-inch version of him. The first was also in a simple standing pose, but looked cool nonetheless. WOR2 is in a super dynamic pose, flying above a random stack of rocks, ready to speak to angels about ADAM.

You'll be able to get Wings of Redemption Spawn 2 in July along with the other three, should you really want them.

In a way, Jack Sparrow was Pirate Spawn 2 since he returned from the dead.

So, does Poacher kill other elephants for their tusks? What a jerk.

With his larger wingspan WOR Spawn 2 is ready to ship your ass straight to heaven.
